Go Boston, Go Celtics

Ok. I’m not much of a sports fan
(and I rarely post during lunch).

But seeing my (almost) hometown of Boston
doing so well,
coming back from
a 24 point deficit

It’s fun. Go Celtics…it’s been a long time coming. Haven’t seen them win it all since…1985? 1986? Wow.

Permanent Farmer’s Market: Vote Now For $10K

If there’s anything you do in the next 16 hours, go to this link:

Year Round Home for Lane County Farmer’s Market

…and vote for that idea. There has been interest in a Permanent Farmer’s Market in Eugene, OR for a number of years, so we’re just a few votes away from getting a $10K grant for it. Also, you don’t need to reside in Eugene to vote. (full disclosure: I am not affiliated with the ideablob site–I just want to see us get a Permanent Farmer Market happening). Ok. There it is.

Go here and vote (before midnight on 5/31/08).

Cold Spells in Eugene, Dry Spell On My Blog

OK, here’s what’s been going on:

Been busy over the last months creating things for work and traveling to and from a little airport I never knew existed: Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, CA. It’s also just about 500-600 yards away from Yahoo!’s Burbank office.
I’ve been working from home, and on the road weekly.

bob_hope_in_the_ghost_breakers_trailer.JPG

I’ve also been back to notice the cold spells that have been surprising most of my friends here in Eugene. I also caught that traditional cold one gets just before pollen production goes nuts, and a lot of noses run. Ces’t la vie: a nice way to slide into allergy season. :)

But I love this little town Eugene, hay fever and all. I’ve also planted just over 40 trees and berries in my back yard–I love daylight after 5:00! Got my bee hive up and running, new fence(s) installed, 7th anniversary (and Deb totally fell for the surprise party I put on). And my Mom visited. So…no blog posts. :)

The Cool Little Green Start-up That You Should Know About: OsoEco.com

picture-5.png

There is a quiet, little green company in town…and it’s becoming known very quickly.

When you walk into the OsoEco offices, it feels exactly like a start-up should feel: energetic, warm and vibrant, quietly determined, fun. This is evidenced by the blue Schwinn Stingray bicycle leaning in the corner, the numerous photos hanging from the walls, the Lab-mix canine cruising around, and the naked brick wall on the office’s East side that still has the name of the warehouse that was there in the 70’s…

But start-ups can’t just be about pizza, geeky toys and brainstorm sessions. Deliverables have to be…delivered. The execution—as well as the elocution– has to be there. And it is. Read the rest of this entry »

Greenest Cars and Meanest Cars

Deb and I are about to get a flex-fuel adapter for our 95′ Camry, so the ‘green car’ thing is currently on our minds. So, when I noticed the top 12 greenest car list from a recent Wired article, I had to throw it in to a quick post:

The Greenest 12 (and this includes the ‘greeness’ of their production process…a lot of people don’t take ‘life cycle’ analysis into consideration, so it’s good to see this as a variable here)

1. Honda Civic GX
2. Toyota Prius
3. Honda Civic Hybrid
4. Smart ForTwo
5. Toyota Yaris
6. Nissan Altima Hybrid
7. Toyota Corolla
8. Mini Cooper / Clubman
9. Ford Focus
10. Toyota Camry Hybrid
11. Honda Civic
12. Honda Fit

Here’s the whole article, including the 12 least green cars list as well.

Super Tuesday ‘08 Green Links

picture-5.png
OSOECO.com: A cool, new green citizen/green product ranking site is coming. Wait! It’s already here, in Eugene, OR! In Beta–go over and get on their invite list–cool features!
(and I do believe I’ll be doing an interview with them in the near future–stay tuned…)

picture-6.png
(And cuz every candidate says their ‘green’ in some way…) Tuesday Election results are still coming in–and it seems to be even more complex and closer to call regardless if your a D or an R. See a handy “Election Result” widget here over in Yahoo news…

picture-7.png
I do believe we’re about to pick-up an E-85 conversion kit over at Green Eye Automotives–they’ll also be installing it in our 95′ Toyota Camry. Not as good as riding the bike, but it’s aspiring towards greener vehik’ling…

Acquisition DeJa Vu!

It’s strange.

I’ve gone through life, crazy wonderful things have happened to me, and I’ve thought, “Wow…that’s big. That kind of thing won’t happen again.”

And it may not. But then it may.

The fact that a tech giant like MSFT might buy the company that I landed in after my last fireball of a company was acquired in a blaze of glory and wisdom…well, all of this is a little overwhelming. Lightning striking twice? Such was the feeling I got this morning when I read some blog post about Microsoft’s proposal. And I started reading others, and it came over me…deja vu. :)

jerryandfilo.jpg

And now to think this all may (or may not) happen again–another acquisition?

Life doesn’t have seat belts–just hold on.
picture-2.png

And finally, the celebratory ‘acquisition shot’ tonight shared by some co-workers of mine at the “Starlight Lounge” here in Eugene. Yeah, we don’t know what will happen, but any reason is a good reason to throw back some El Patron and red grenadine (I just took the picture).

And see Cam’s take on the acquisition here…
